Margarita Mateo Palmer (La Habana, 1950) es considerada una de las mejores ensayistas cubanas por una sostenida obra en la que sobresalen t�tulos como Del bardo que te canta (1988), Ella escrib�a poscr�tica (1995, Premio Raz�n de Ser), Paradiso: la aventura m�tica (2002, Premio Alejo Carpentier), El palacio del pavo real: el viaje m�tico (2007, Premio Enrique Jos� Varona de la UNEAC). Con este libro, ganador del Premio Alejo Carpentier de novela 2008, incursiona por primera vez en este g�nero. En cinco ocasiones ha obtenido el Premio Nacional de la Cr�tica que se entrega en Cuba a los diez mejores libros publicados anualmente. Desde 1992 ostenta el grado acad�mico de doctora en Ciencias Literarias. Actualmente es profesora de literatura en el Instituto Superior de Arte. Es Miembro de N�mero de la Academia Cubana de la Lengua y Miembro Correspondiente de la Real Academia de la Lengua Espa�ola. En 1995 le fueron otorgadas la Distinci�n por la Cultura Nacional y la Distinci�n por la Educaci�n Cubana.
