Kirk Nelson has been a student of the Edgar Cayce readings for over twenty years and is the author of three books based on the Cayce readings including The Second Coming, and Edgar Cayce's Hidden History of Jesus. Good Introduction To Astrology

I don't know much about astrology but to me this book seems to provide a good introduction to the basic concepts.

The Edgar Cayce material provides some unique contributions to astrology with Cayce's idea of the planetary sojourns which people experience between incarnations. For Cayce astrology and reincarnation are closely related.

Nelson was able to compare Cayce's astrological influences with his real past life experiences. I suspect it is very rare that those two sources of information are both available for someone in that level of detail.

Cayce said astrologers should be using the sidereal Zodiac but most use the tropical Zodiac. The book uses the tropical Zodiac which I felt wasn't that great if he is trying to explain Cayce's interpretation of astrology.

Nelson agrees with Edgar Cayce that some people may not be affected by the effects of astrological influences on their lives. They can override those influences with their own free will and the choices they make. So this makes me wonder how useful astrology really is for individuals.

I'm interested in astrology more in relation to mythology, ancient monuments like the pyramids, and world affairs. The book gets into some of that where it says Edgar Cayce became the Egyptian's sun god Ra because he had been on the Sun before being reincarnated as the Atlantean priest Ra Ta.

Ancient cultures believed that the constellations of the Zodiac are living entities.

They also believed that the stars in the constellations influenced how the Earth was formed all of those unimaginable eons ago.

Astrology is supported in the bible. Ezekiel's vision of the four living creatures corresponds to the four fixed signs of the Zodiac. Those strange Zodiac creatures appear again in the Book Of Revelation and they are the ones who told John about the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Nelson says some things which seem a little far out to me. He says based on astrology the FBI should have waited another month before trying to end the siege of the Branch Davidians at Waco, Texas.

He says the Star Of Bethlehem was a super nova.

Overall this is a pretty good book if you want to understand Cayce's views about astrology.

It was too light weight in content and was really all about Cayce's philosophy on reincarnation rather than information about astrology. Basically it was a disappointment.

Transformative book in a palatable format for anyone to understand

As a Vice President of a Fortune 500 based product Company, Barry's book is critical to understand the evolution from product, software to network based ideology. Similar to how mainframes transitioned to mini to PCs, Barry has taken a proven concept and boiled it down to easy to understand language that we all innately feel to be true. Quite simply, his book is changing my life, the way I think about present and future opportunities. For those that want to unicorn hunt, network imperative provides the map.

good tool for classes

The book gave me plenty of information about drugs and the culture surrounding it, will apply the knowledge to my daily life and to help those I come in contact with when on the job. Information was great for my course work in school. Some chapters in the book were on real life experiences and they were very informative and gave me good insight.

This one WAY worse than the other Sociology book

School book. This one WAY worse than the other Sociology book, but the writing audience seems to be focused on more high school level than college. Very odd chapters within chapters and the whole book was poorly organized and written. Hard to read and follow!

Early in this memoir, Soyinka, the Nobel-winning playwright, says that he is "a closet glutton for tranquillity." The account that follows details a decidedly untranquil life of activism, imprisonment, and exile over the past half century. In 1956, as a Nigerian student in England, Soyinka considered joining the Hungarian uprising against the Soviets, thinking it a "perfect rehearsal" for future African insurgencies, but his father advised, "Kindly return home and make this your battlefield." The bulk of the book concerns Soyinka's struggles against one corrupt Lagos administration after another, shedding light on the outsize characters of African politics. Along the way, Soyinka recalls how once, in Venice, W. H. Auden tried to pass him off as an African prince, and reveals that, after winning the Nobel Prize, he came down with writer's block, "overwhelmed by the futility of everything I had ever done."

That Soyinka's story so closely aligns with the history of Nigeria testifies to his ongoing commitment to the cause of democracy, but the focus on politics leaves a few reviewers wishing for more of the personal stories found in Ak�, his first memoir, and The Man Died, about his two-year imprisonment. You Must Set Forth at Dawn is not always easy going, especially for those unfamiliar with African history. For those willing to take the journey, Soyinka's account breathes with the "fullness of an epic" (San Francisco Chronicle).

Captivating read!

This is my first taste of Soyinka's work, except for the few scenes of "The Lion and The Jewel" I gleaned many years ago.

I haven't read many autobiographies, but this is without question one of the best I have read. Solidly written, with a plethora of hilarious, as well as sobering anecdotes, and a masterful deployment of literary devices, this, surely is a chef-d'oeuvre. However, this book is not only an autobiography but an excellent historical account of Nigeria's political history since independence in 1960.

Catapulted right into the middle of the action and intrigue that took hold of the nation, I learned new things and gained a lot of useful insight into how the nation became to be what it is today and the various roles of those involved in shaping its destiny.

I grabbed this book because I wanted to learn more about the history of my country from the mouth of a seasoned literary figure. I was astounded to discover that he was completely involved in the struggle right from the beginning. What is more, I was rewarded with a distinctive literary style and all the rewards it brings - new vocabulary, new expressions, and more knowledge.

And I completely disagree with those who complain that Soyinka is too wordy and dawdles over many unnecessary details before getting to the real thing. What real thing are they searching for, anyway? This, after all, is a memoir. Moreover, every page, every word was an absolute treat.

Of course, I do not necessarily agree with all his ideologies, but his honest style through which he sometimes seems to contradict himself, is but a true reflection of how the human mind works.

Highly recommended, and you can be sure to be rewarded with far more than you intially expected at the end of this book.

Life, art and politics

Soyinka skilfully offers refreshing glimpses into his life as a humble, honest and courageous individual. He is deeply spiritual but definitely not a holier-than-thou prude. Soyinka's infectious enjoyment of life comes across in his passion for hunting, wine, music, art and, of course, women. It seems that it is this enduring appreciation of the immense possibilities of life that drives his resistance to dictatorship and systems that seek to rob the individual of the opportunity to partake in the sacrement of life. The man, his art and his politics are inseperable.

A must read for those interested in Nigerian history since independence

Mr. Soyinka, masterfully uses his life as a running commentary for the state of political affairs in Nigeria since 1960. While the book does speak on a lot of serious issues there are many moments of hilarity such as when W.H Auden passes him off as an African Prince and the quest to recover an acient mask that led Mr. Soyinka to Brazil.

Mr. Soyinka's style tends to be a little heavy on grammar but overall it is a great book, one that I am happy to have bought.

Kritek (chair, mental health nursing and management, Univ. of Texas Sch. of Nursing, Galveston) received a National Leadership Fellowship from the Kellogg Foundation in 1986 to study conflict resolution. Including examples from her own experiences as the nondominant negotiator, Kritek intends to encourage dialog about "dominant power." Rather than offering practical methods for achieving equality, she suggests ten "ways of being" (e.g., "be a truth teller," "be innovative") to provide a philosophical context for nondominant negotiators to use when approaching uneven tables. Unfortunately, Kritek's penchant for rambling philosophical reflections leads to writing that is verbose, repetitive, and prone to digression and forces the reader to look hard for substance. Not recommended.

Negotiating at an Uneven Table has become a vital tool for my personal self actualization, professional communication, and daily growth. After reading this book, it is clear to see that most, if not all, tables are uneven. Regardless of which side of the table your on, Dr. Kritek provides tools for honest and successful negotiation. Her examples of the valleys and mountain top experiences and tables of life bring the actual events of life into a different and clearer perspective. Her words are honest and direct while being full of compassion. The chapter regarding manipulation has been espicially critical in assisting me identifing common techniques used by myself and others to control life. I strongly suggest this book for anyone sincerely interested in becoming a more honest, compassionate, and fullfilled person. Regardless of your profession, negotiation is a part of living and daily communication. Dr. Kritek provides a perspective to understand what is occouring and how to arrive at a win-win outcome. If winning is not an option, she helps to identify this reality and show you when to walk away.

Excellent resource for effective conflict negotiation

This book is the single most helpful resource for assisting nurses to deal with interpersonal conflict that is inherent in their places of work today. It provides practical exercises interwoven with real nursing stories and occurrences that allow individuals to personalize their approaches to addressing conflict with others. It provides the reader with the opportunity to reframe conflict and conflict management in a way that allows for resolution. A great read!

A definite must have for schools and families.

As I have said previously, I am a sales rep for a major book publisher so I see a lot of books. I am certainly not afraid to tell you when my company sends out what I call a stinker. On the otherhand if we publish one I really like, I do not have a problem telling a school or library that they have to have a book.

This is a book that they should all have. It will appeal to students on a social level. It is wonderful teaching tool for teachers and parents alike. It does a wonderful job of being consistent on the rhyming text. Plus, it is just a real great story with really great pictures.

I ultimately judge a children's book by how often my child pulls the book out of the bookcase for me to read, and I can truly say that this is a book my two year old grabs almost every night.

Revolutionary monkeys, UNITE!

Echoing both Sombertown (from the stop motion classic Santa Claus Is Comin to Town) as well as Fritz Lang's Metropolis (1927), Drabsville is a gray town filled with sad inhabitants.

Into this cold, unhappy world walks a suspiciously happy, guitar-playing, vest-wearing hippie named Chutney. Actually, much of the story follows the plot from First Blood. Like Rambo, Chutney finds an enemy of authority (the mayor, to Rambo's Sheriff Teasle) and is unfairly thrown into prison. The *seed* that Chutney illegally brings into Drabsville could easily be seen as allegorical marijuana. "Destroy that nasty weed!"

Upon his release, and with the mayor temporarily out of town, Chutney incites the masses. Surely another influence at this point was Reagan's "Tear down this wall!" speech. We see formerly morose chimps painting their homes pink(!) and turning the palace into a fruity playground. Nor is it a stretch to see the kiddie rocket ship as a decommissioned weapon of mass destruction.

Chutney soon has the entire town's population dancing in the streets. Everyone is eating copious quantities of food, no one is working anymore. Drabsville (now renamed Happytown, in the classic revolutionary tradition) has gone from dystopia to utopia.

Having successfully turned the guards against their master, Chutney has *him* thrown into jail. With the mayor under lock and key, Chutney completes the coup d'�tat by assuming the mayoral post. He lets the former mayor out of jail but only to rub his nose in the new world order. Power to the people! Or at least to the chimpanzees.

This children's book packs some heavy messages into its colorful pages. For children conditioned to equating chimps with Curious George, they may not pick up on every facet of the story without parental assistance. How much you clue them in is up to you.

Tricky Territory

It is a tricky thing to try to teach kids that authority is not always right and sometimes you have to stand up to it. This book strikes a perfect balance, with the main character being punished for doing something beautiful and for the common good but technically against the rules. When he ultimately wins out (with the help of some young chimps), rather than punishing the person who jailed him, he teaches him the error of his ways. A very thoughtful book, but one that won't be over the heads of the intended audience.
